‘The Fate of the Furious’ Trailer Brings a Wrecking Ball to a Car Chase

Well, the Fast and Furious franchise just keeps upping the ante. What started out with some people stealing TVs and VHS players has turned into a global action/adventure series that tries to outdo itself with each new iteration. Honestly, I’m just waiting for the entry where Dom and his crew have to go into space. The Fast and the Furious meets Star Wars pod racing, anyone?

Anyways, the trailer for The Fate of the Furious – which will be followed by Fellowship of the Furious, The Two Fasts and culminate with Return of the Furious – the eighth film in this high-speed, pure octane series, has been released and it takes the insane, gleeful inanity of James Wan’s Fast 7 and simply turns it up to ’11’. Remember when the main characters had to face off against a drone? Yeah, now they’ve got to go head-to-head with a submarine. Ridiculous…ly awesome! Count me in!

Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon and Brian and Mia have retired from the game—and the rest of the crew has been exonerated—the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman seduces Dom into the world of crime he can’t seem to escape and a betrayal of those closest to him, they will face trials that will test them as never before.

The Fate of the Furious stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Bridges, Lucas Black, Scott Eastwood, Kurt Russell, Jason Statham and Charlize Theron. It is the first movie, apart from Tokyo Drift, that doesn’t star Paul Walker, who passed away in 2013 in a car accident.

The Fate of the Furious comes out April 14th, 2017.

Having Dom turn on the ‘crew’ is bizarre. Don’t ever see this happening if Walker were still alive.

    I’ll see it, nevertheless.

    • They definitely had to do something different to get butts in seats. This definitely creates a storyline that “shocks” and “intrigues” longtime fans, which I think is very smart of them.

I agree. People are intrigued — hell, I’m intrigued to see why/how he turns on the crew… But, I am one of those longtime fans, and I just don’t feel that this is truly a Fast and Furious film (though I know it is). It just doesn’t have that original feel to it, when even Tokyo Drift felt apart of the franchise.

My butt will be planted in the seat, as usual, though.

It’s obvious he’s on a super secret undercover assignment. Or, he’s being blackmailed.

      • Yeah, those are the two most obvious choices. Hopefully they do something else, something interesting.
