A new teaser trailer for the upcoming action sequel xXx: The Return of Xander Cage has been released and it focuses on someone named Nicky Jam, who I had to Google to find out is a musician. Cool.
The film is the third in the xXx series, which began in 2002. The 2005 sequel featured Ice Cube in the lead, so this third entry is more of a sequel to the original as it marks, as the title oh so obviously lays it out for everyone, the return of Vin Diesel’s character Xander Cage, an extreme sports enthusiast who, for some reason, is hired by the NSA to become a spy. If you can shut off your brain for the runtime, it’s not a horrible movie, it’s just painfully dull. It’s the kind of movie you leave on the TV because you are far too lazy to even get up for another round of snacks.
After coming out of self-imposed exile, daredevil operative Xander Cage must race against time to recover a sinister weapon known as Pandora’s Box, a device that controls every military satellite in the world. Recruiting a new group of thrill-seeking cohorts, Xander finds himself entangled in a deadly conspiracy that points to collusion at the highest levels of government.
Directed by D.J. Caruso, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage stars Vin Diesel, Donnie Yen, Deepika Padukone, Samuel L. Jackson, Tony Jaa, Nina Dobrev, Ruby Rose, Rory McCann, Kris Wu, and Ariadna Gutiérrez. It hits theaters on January 20th, 2017.
