‘My Little Pony’ Enlists Zoe Saldana’s Vocal Talents

Zoe Saldana (Guardians of the Galaxy) has joined the voice cast of My Little Pony: The Movie. According to Variety, the actress enters a guest celebrity voice cast that also includes Emily Blunt, Taye Diggs, Sia Furler, Liev Schreiber, Uzo Aduba, Michael Pena, and Kristen Chenoweth. Saldana recently provided voicework for Fox’s 2014 Guillermo Del Toro-produced animated feature, The Book of Life. The actress’ work can currently be seen in Ben Affleck’s Live By Night, which is now playing in theaters nationwide. She will next appear in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 this May.

My Little Pony: The Movie sees main characters Princess Twilight Sparkle (Tara Strong), Rainbow Dash (Ashleigh Ball), Applejack (also Ashleigh Ball), Fluttershy (Andrea Libman), Pinkie Pie (also Andrea Libman), and Rarity (Tabitha St. Germain) setting off on a new journey that involves metting new friends and braving new challenges as they use their talents to save their home. “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic” voice actors Cathy Weseluck and Kazumi Evans also reprise their parts from the popular animated series as Spike the Dragon and the singing voice of Rarity, respectively. “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic” has been on the air since 2010 and is in its seventh season. The series has aired on Discovery Family since 2014.

Sia Furler is set to voice a “pop star” pegasus named Songbird Serenade. Liev Schreiber will be voicing some sort of monster and is potentially the villain for the film. Beyond their characters, however, the voice roles of the other celebrity actors are not yet known at this time. My Little Pony: The Movie is helmed by series director Jayson Thiessen and the script was written by series writers Meghan McCarthy and Rita Hsiao. The Hasbo production will be released by Lionsgate later this year on October 6th.
