According to , actress Daniella Pineda (“The Detour“) has joined the cast of Universal’s upcoming Jurassic World sequel. Her role, like most details about the film, is being kept under wraps at this time, although she is expected to be playing a lead. Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly have returned to pen the follow-up, which will be directed by J.A. Bayona (The Orphanage, A Monster Calls). Pineda joins a cast that currently includes Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, B.D. Wong, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, and Justice Smith. The untitled Jurassic World sequel is set for release on June 22nd, 2018.
It’s been rumored for awhile now, but it’s official: Michael Dougherty will direct Warner Bros.’ Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Dougherty was hired back in October to co-write the sequel to WB’s 2014 Godzilla reboot with Zach Shields. Shortly after, it was reported that the Trick ‘r Treat & Krampus filmmaker was in talks to direct. According to Variety, the deal is done. King of the Monsters is currently slated to arrive in theaters on March 22nd, 2019 and could see the inclusion of other classic Toho giant monsters like Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah. The combination seuel to both it and Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla vs. Kong, will arrive in May 2020.
Actress Betty Gabriel has joined the cast of Leigh Whannell’s Stem. According to , the actress will be playing the female lead in the original science fiction thriller, opposite actor Logan Marshall-Green. The Blumhouse project, which centers on a techonophobe attempting to solve his wife’s murder using experimental tech in the near-future, is set to begin production soon. Gabriel previously appeared in Blumhouse’s The Purge: Election Year and will next be seen in their Jordan Peele-directed feature, Get Out.
Anthony G. Cohen (The Sex Trip) has signed on to direct a remake of Every Which Way But Loose. is reporting that filming on the reboot is expected to commence this spring, with original director James Fargo producing. There’s no word on casting at this time. The original and its seuel, Any Which Way You Can, starred Clint Eastwood and were among his more succssful outings as an actor. They centered on a fist-fighting truck driver named Philo Beddoe and his orangutan sidekick, Clyde.
