Now that “Legion” is close to premiering on FX, Fox has slowly been dishing out information on their next X-Men television project. Matt Nix (“Burn Notice“) is showrunning the still-untitled TV series that will see a family, some of whom are mutants, on the run from the government and Sentinels. The reportedly find refuge with the mutant underground, potentially (according to rumor) with famed group the Morlocks. Not much else is known about the show, but now we can add a director to the list of facts. is now saying that none other than Bryan Singer will be helming the pilot for the untitled series!
Singer’s connection to the franchise is a strong one, having helmed four of the feature films to date and produced an additional two. The accomplished filmmaker has also directed such films as The Usual Suspects, Superman Returns, and Valkyrie. In addition to his film work, Singer is also a successful television producer, bringing us such shows as “House” and the aforementioned “Legion“. The director will, of course, also executive produce this series, alongside Lauren Shuler-Donner, Simon Kinberg, Jim Chory, and Jeph Loeb.
Fox officially put out a pilot order on the series earlier this week. Production is expected to begin sometime this spring. Assuming it is taken to series, the show is expected to debut as part of the 2017-2018 lineup. In the event of that, an episode order now higher than 13 is planned for the initial season. I would assume that this show will air on the Fox network itself, as opposed to FX, where its Noah Hawley-created sister series “Legion” dwells. With an official order in place, information on the show should start pouring out soon, from character details to hopefully a title. After all, I am a bit tired of referring to the nameless program in vague ways and “Untitled X-Men TV Series” is just too unwieldy a placeholder.
