Jacob Tremblay Will Take On ‘The Predator’

I love that I have a job where I can write about Predator movies multiple times a week. You would think that I might get tired of it after awhile, but you’d be wrong. Today’s Predator-related subject involves the casting of 10-year-old actor Jacob Tremblay in Fox’s The Predator. The child actor joins the cast of the upcoming Shane Black film as the son of actor Boyd Holbrook’s lead character. Tremblay’s character will apparently be autistic and have a knack for learning different languages, according to .

Might young boy learn to read and/or speak the language of the Predators? Given what THR is saying, I’m guessing the answer is a very loud “Yes!”…

“Tremblay will play the son of the character played by Holbrook, the latter playing an ex-Marine who discovers the existence of fierce aliens but that no one believes they exist. The son is autistic and bullied in school but becomes a key player in the fight due to his preternatural ability to learn languages.”

So now we have a bit more insight into the film coming our way. We’ve got an ex-Marine with an autistic son, both of whom will be very important to the events that unfold. We’ve got a couple more ex-Marines (Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key), a scientist (Olivia Munn), and a government stooge (Sterling K. Brown), plus the always-badass Thomas Jane in an undisclosed role. We might even have Arnold Schwarzenegger (as Major Dutch Schaefer) and 50 Cent (as probably not himself) appearing in the film. It’s an ensemble piece with a plot folding out on a global scale into something far more epic than the franchise has given us to date. Plus there’s the two most important ingredients: director Shane Black and writer Fred Dekker.

I tend to cringe a bit when it comes to child casting in big genre films of this type, but not when it involves Black and/or Dekker. I could give you a long explanation of why I trust both gentlemen on this front, but instead I’ll let their applicable credits speak for themselves: Iron Man 3, The Last Boy Scout, and The Monster Squad, among others. So yeah, I’m not worried. If anything, I’m excited that we’re going to get another great child character from this pair, especially when he’s played by Tremblay. The actor was fantastic in Room and pretty great in Before I Wake as well. I have little doubt that he will be great here.

Once again, is it February 2018 yet?
