Get Ready For A ‘Nightwing’ Movie

Here we go again! Right after Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment seem to finally get their act together on The Batman, they go ahead and announce yet another project. This time it is a Nightwing movie, which will presumably be helmed by Chris McKay (The Lego Batman Movie). The project already has a screenwriter in place, in this case Bill Dubuque (The Accountant). As always, there’s no word on any sort of expected production timeline. Kudos to for the drop.

Full disclosure: I don’t hate the three existing DCEU movies. In fact, I still rather like Man of Steel. As for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad? They aren’t what I’d call “good” movies, but they’re entertainingly watchable in their own way. I’m actively looking forward to both Wonder Woman and Aquaman. I’m also cautiously optimistic about Justice League.

My enthusiasm ends there, however. Why? Because Warner Bros. seems more interested in announcing projects than actually making them, let alone making them good. Both Marvel and Fox have a decent amount of films announced as being in the works for their Marvel Cinematic Universe and X-Men franchises, with slates officially booked through the end of 2019. That’s fine and is to be expected.

But DC? They now have at least a dozen films in development on their own, most of which seem unlikely to ever come to fruition. Sure, we’ll probably see The Batman, Gotham City Sirens, Suicide Squad 2, The Flash, and Shazam happen. Maybe even Black Adam, Green Lantern Corps, Justice League 2, and Cyborg as well. The problem is that their list extends far beyond those films. They also have Deathstroke, Man of Steel 2, Deadshot, Justice League Dark, Booster Gold, Metal Men, Lobo, Mandrake the Magician, and now Nightwing in development.

A slate of that magnitude would last for the next decade or longer, and they still keep announcing films! It’s like a kid coming up with increasingly ridiculous ways to distract his parents from the troublesome issue at hand, instead of just owning up to his faults and fixing them. It’s grown incredibly tiresome and I’m at the point where I just don’t care anymore. Stop announcing new projects and just focus on making ONE great movie, fellas. Get your act together.
