Beep Beep, King Fans: The ‘It’ Trailer Has Arrived!

It is back! After years of development, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have crafted a brand new adaptation of the classic Stephen King novel. While we’re still a little over five months away from release, today they have issued a teaser trailer for the first film in their two-part adaptation. How does It look? It looks good…

I like everything I’m seeing here. Mind you this is just a basic teaser setting up the overall plot, with a barrage of creepy imagery in between, but it’s an effective one. The kids and their justified fear is well-showcased, Pennywise is teased just enough without giving away the performance, and it’s clear that they have not dropped his shapeshifting abilities. The updated setting seems to be working as well.

There’s a distinctive air of menace to everything on display and I love that. One could complain that this teaser is a bit by-the-numbers in terms of editing, but that’s fine for an initial teaser. We have many months and likely many more teasers, trailers, and TV spots to get through before the film arrives. That leaves ample time for the studio to sell this film on its characters and personality. Bottom line? Based on what I’m seeing here, it looks like director Andres Muschietti (Mama) is delivering the goods. Here’s hoping he gets to finish his King by shooting the second film soon.

It is based on the popular novel of the same name by Stephen King. This new adaptation is directed by Andres Muschietti, from a screenplay by Chase Palmer, Cary Fukunaga, and Gary Doberman. The picture is produced by Dan Lin, Roy Lee, David Katzenberg, Barbara Muschietti, and Seth Grahame-Smith. The film stars Bill Skarsgard as ‘It/Pennywise’, Jaeden Lieberher as ‘Bill Denbrough’, Jeremy Ray Taylor as ‘Ben Hanscom’, Sophia Lillis as ‘Beverly Marsh’, Finn Wolfhard as ‘Riche Tozier’, Wyatt Olef as ‘Stanley Uris’, Chosen Jacbos as ‘Mike Hanlon’, Jake Dylan Grazer as ‘Eddie Kaspbrak’, Nicholas Hamilton as ‘Henry Bowers’, Owen Teague as ‘Patrick Hockstetter’, Logan Thompson as ‘Victor “Vic” Criss’, Jake Sim as ‘Reginald “Belch” Huggins’, Jackson Robert Scott as ‘George Denbrough’, Javier Botet as ‘The Leper’, Tatum Lee as ‘Judith’, Steven Williams as ‘Leroy Hanlon’, Stephen Bogaert as ‘Alvin Marsh’, Pip Dwyer as ‘Sharon Denbrough’, Geoffrey Pounsett as ‘Zack Denbrough’, Ari Cohen as ‘Rabbi Uris’, Stuart Hughes as ‘Oscar “Butch” Bowers’, and Megan Charpentier as ‘Greta Bowie’.

It arrives in theaters on September 8th, 2017.
