Edgar Wright’s Next, ‘Grasshopper Jungle’, Has A Home

According to , New Regency is in the final stages of negotiations to pick up filmmaker Edger Wright‘s next project, Grasshopper Jungle. The outfit apparently won the rights in a small bidding war that included competition such as Netflix, among others. Wright will direct the film, which Matt Tolmach (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Rough Night) is on board to produce. Scott Rosenberg (Pain & Gain, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) has penned the script for the project, which is an adaptation of Andrew Smith’s young adult novel of the same name.

The novel tells the tale of two high school boys attempting to survive the apocalypse in a small Iowa town. What kind of apocalypse are we talking about? One where people infected with an engineered plague turn into giant praying mantises! It certainly sounds right up Edgar Wright’s alley. Hell, it’s also right up mine.

If you’re super excited that Wright has another film already set up on the eve of Baby Driver‘s release, I asked you to temper your enthusiasm a bit. After all, Driver was announced three years before finally hitting theaters this summer, despite being fully financed and practically ready-to-go two years ago. My point? Wright likes to take his time with his films. That’s perfectly fine, especially since I tend to love everything he makes. I’m just saying that we shouldn’t automatically assume we’ll be watching Grasshopper Jungle in 2018 or even 2019 just because it’s currently landing financing and a production company.
