Star Wars Celebration has been barreling along down in Orlando this week. While numerous fun tidbits and tributes have occurred over the past few days, the one thing that everyone has truly been waiting for has arrived. Today Disney and Lucasfilm have released the first teaser trailer for Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the direct sequel to J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens. What does the next episode of the Star Wars saga have in store for us? It’s time to get our first real taste…
“It’s time for the Jedi to end.”
That’s one hell of a statement, especially for a teaser trailer. Director Johnson has said more than once that this film will not be going dark like The Empire Strikes Back, but even with the tone holding from the previous Episode, it looks like things aren’t going well for our heroes. This teaser is more of a mood and stakes-setter than anything. It offers up virtually no answers and a wide assortment of new questions. Questions that I have little doubt fans will be pondering over furiously in the months leading up to release.
In addition to the teaser, we’ve also been gifted a handful of stills and the strikingly beautiful teaser poster below. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I absolutely want one to hang on my wall.
