Fox Wants Stallone For ‘Starlight’

Ever since Kick-Ass made them a lot of dough years ago, Fox has been in the Mark Millar business. They made Kick-Ass 2, two Kingsman films so far, and they’ve added him as a consultant on their superhero films. They’ve also scooped up the rights to a number of his other properties. One of those projects is Starlight, a swashbuckling space opera tale about an aging hero setting off on one last spacebound adventure. According to , the studio is finally moving forward on the film and they already have their eye on a star: Sylvester Stallone.

The plot? It’s basically Old Man Flash Gordon…

The comic centers on Duke McQueen, a man who has long since settled down and left his days of saving the Universe and operating as the space hero everyone depended on—at least that’s what he thought. His wife long passed and his kids off embarking on their own adventures, Duke lives a quiet, solitary life until he receives an unexpected call from a distant world, calling him to action one last time.

Duke McQueen is a very-Stallone character name, which can only make it even more enticing for Sly. Gary Whitta (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) has penned the script for the film, which Millar and Simon Kinberg will produce. No director is currently attached to Starlight, but it is a project that Millar pal Matthew Vaughn was eyeing before moving on to do Kingsman: The Golden Circle instead. I certainly wouldn’t mind Vaughn circling back around to it, although there are a number of directors within the Fox stable at the moment that would knock such a concept out f the park.

Regardless of who directs, this seems like a really fun project for Stallone to tackle. I hope he does, although his commitment to Marvel’s equally space-filled Guardians of the Galaxy franchise might make things a bit trickier. Hopefully things can be worked out, as the concept of Sly as an aging Buck Rogers-esque hero saving the universe one last time is just too good to not happen.
