‘The Defenders’ Trailer: The War For New York Is Here

After a few teases in the form of screenshots, moody promotional images, and the occasional clip, Marvel TV and Netflix have finally issued a full trailer for The Defenders. For those not aware, The Defenders is an event miniseries combining characters from all four of Marvel’s existing shows on the streaming platform: “Daredevil“, “Jessica Jones“, “Luke Cage“, and “Iron Fist“. The 8-episode miniseries will see all four heroes, as well as various supporting players, come together to defeat a massive threat to the city of New York.

After complaints of the most recent two Marvel seasons on Netflix being slow, this trailer definitely feels like a reaction. It’s loaded with action, as well as various character mash-ups, selling a miniseries that looks like it won’t be pulling its punches. The action appears to be on a grander and more intricate scale than what we’ve been given before in this corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As for the characters? They seem to be reacting to each other in ways we’d expect. Matt and Jessica trading snarky comments. Danny overexcited and rushing into things. Luke attempting to remain calm and take it all in. Stick being a no-nonsense pseudo-mentor. Misty and Claire caught in the middle of it all.

Not much is laid out in terms of the plot, but there’s still time for that. We see the mysterious and powerful Alexandra (Sigourney Weaver). We are also reminded that The Hand have their new Black Sky weapon, Elektra. Is Alexandra a Hand leader or is she something else entirely? Or perhaps a bit of both? We’ll all find out on August 18th.

The Defenders is a miniseries event combining the various Marvel shows on Netflix. Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez serves as its showrunners. The series stars Charlie Cox as ‘Matt Murdock/Daredevil’, Krysten Ritter as ‘Jessica Jones’, Mike Coulter as ‘Luke Cage’, Finn Jones as ‘Danny Rand/Iron Fist’, Sigourney Weaver as ‘Alexandra’, Elodie Yung as ‘Elektra Natchios’, Scott Glenn as ‘Stick’, Marko Zaror as ‘Shaft’, Simone Missick as ‘Misty Knight’, Jessica Henwick as ‘Colleen Wing’, Rosario Dawson as ‘Claire Temple’, Deborah Ann Woll as ‘Karen Page’, Elden Henson as ‘Foggy Nelson’, Eka Darville as ‘Malcolm Ducasse’, Carrie-Ann Moss as ‘Jeri Hogarth’, and Rachael Taylor as ‘Trish Walker’.
