The star and the director of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer are on a new project! Actor Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy) and director John McNaughton (Wild Things) will reteam for an adaptation of A Good Man Is Hard To Find. The picture is an adaptation of the Flannery O’Connor short story by the same name. The screenplay has been penned by Benedict Fitzgerald (The Passion of the Christ), who previously adapted another O’Connor tale into the 1979 John Huston film, Wise Blood.
I’m not familiar with this particular story, but based on a summary, it sounds like it might serve as a good companion piece to Henry, especially if Rooker ends up playing ‘The Misfit’. Long story short, it’s another dark drama with moments of brutal violence. R&R Productions Worldwide will produce the project. The film is likely to get underway later this year once Rooker’s schedule clears. With Michael Rooker still at the height of his acting prowess, I can’t wait to see what these two cook up together again.
This marks Rooker’s first collaboration with McNaughton since making Henry in the the mid-’80s. Henry had a troubled distribution history, sitting unreleased (outside of a few festival screenings) until 1990, five years after it was made. The film still managed to make its mark and remains an piece of work to this very day. It also launched the careers of both Rooker and McNaughton.
A sequel, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer Part II, followed six years alter, albeit without their involvement. John McNaughton’s latest film is 2015’s horror thriller, The Harvest, which starred Michael Shannon, Samantha Morton, and Peter Fonda. Michael Rooker appeared earlier this year in Greg McLean’s The Belko Experiment and can currently been seen on the big screen in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, where he gives yet another show-stopping performance.
Together again…
