‘Thrones’ & ‘Split’ Stars Officially Cast In ‘New Mutants’

After of unofficial attachment, the casting of both Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Split) and Maisie Williams (“Game of Thrones“) in Fox’s The New Mutants has been . The actresses have both signed on to star in the upcoming X-Men spin-off, which is to be directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars). Taylor-Joy will be taking on the role of Magik (the sword-wielding one above) and Williams will bring to life Wolfsbane (see below).

Other characters expected to fill out this new mutant team’s roster include Cannonball, Warlock, Mirage, and Sunspot. They will be joined both both Professor X (James McAvoy) and Storm (Alexandra Shipp) in some capacity, according to previous reports. Their adversary? The Demon Bear. That might sound strange in the wake of previous X-Men movie villains like Magneto, Sebastian Shaw, and Apocalypse, but The New Mutants will not be a traditional X-Men film. Instead it will reportedly be a bit smaller in scale and carry more of a horror movie tone described as “John Hughes meets Stephen King”.

Production on the film is slated to begin in July. The New Mutants was adapted from the source material by director Josh Boone and co-writer Knate Gwaltney. Simon Kinberg, Karen Rosenfelt, and Lauren Shuler-Donner are on board to produce the project for Fox.

The New Mutants is currently set to arrive in theaters on April 13th, 2018.
