It’s Time (Again) For ‘Animaniacs’

When the whippoorwill, whippoors with the wind, the wind can whippoor back…Oh, nice and chubby re-boot! Amblin Television and Warner Bros. Animation have begun development on a reboot of the classic ’90s cartoon, “Animaniacs“! The Steven Spielberg-produced series debuted in 1993 and ran for five seasons, racking up 99 episodes and a DTV movie in the process. It remains a greatly beloved property to this day, so much so that social media was in joyous celebration when it became available for streaming on Netflix last year.

It’s still early days for this rejuvenation, so it’s currently without a home. That said, considering the fact that Warner Bros. Television’s revivals of “Full House” and “Gilmore Girls” landed on Netflix, odds are that’s where this will land as well. After all, that’s where the original run sits and I’d hazard a guess that a new round of the property has been greenlit primarily off of the number of views that it has received on the popular streaming outlet over the past year or so.

Given how early it is in development, it’s just too soon to tell if any of the original talent, be it the creator, writers, or voice actors, will be returning. I would assume the side cartoons within it (Pinky and the Brain, Slappy the Squirrel, etc.) will be back as well, but nothing is set in stone at this time. Whatever it is, I’m in for it, so long as it maintains the maniac hilarity, creativity, and random pop culture references of the original series.
