Trailer: Noomi Rapace Is ‘Seven Sisters’

Seven Sisters (also known as What Happened to Monday?) is the latest film from Norwegian filmmaker Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters). The picture is based on a Black List screenplay and stars Noomi Rapace (Prometheus) as seven identical sisters, each named for a day of the week. The film is set in a future dystopia where families are only allowed to have one child.

The sisters have kept their existence a secret by remaining in hiding, with each of them allowed one day a week to walk among humanity as they all pretend to be one singular person. This is done in an effort to live under the radar of the dreaded Child Allocation Bureau, who have been tasked with keeping society’s overpopulation under control. It seems that all is going well, until one day when the sister named Monday goes missing…

This is a pretty wild high-concept and one made further enticing by the talent involved. Wirkola’s films always have my attention, no matter what they are, and Rapace seems to thrive when placed in an environment outside of the norm. Throw in Willem Dafoe and Glenn Close? You’ve got yourself a must-see sci-fi thriller, as far as I am concerned. The film has no U.S. release date at this time, but Netflix has already scooped up distribution rights. Given that the film is completed, a premiere sometime in the second half of 2017 seems likely. More as it comes.

Seven Sisters is an original science fiction thriller. The film is directed by Tommy Wirkola, from a screenplay by Max Botkin and Kerry Williams.
