A trailer has been issued for the international supernatural adventure film, Journey to China. The film stars Jason Flemyng, Charles Dance, and a multinational cast that also happens to include Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jackie Chan. The size of the latter two’s roles is unknown at this time and could prove to be nothing more than cameos, but regardless, this looks like it could be fun. This is a foreign trailer, so don’t expect much in the way of English dialogue and title cards. Instead, this initial teaser sells itself primarily on visuals and style. Check it out…
Set in the 18th century, the film follows the continuing exploits of cartographer Jonathan Green (Jason Flemyng) as he undertakes a scientific and supernatural journey that leads him from England to China.
A Russian-Chinese co-production, Journey to China is actually a sequel to 2014’s Viy. The latter film was released here in America under the title Forbidden Empire (or in the UK, The Forbidden Kingdom). Speaking of alternate titles, Journey to China will also be going by Viy 2: Journey to China and Journey to China: The Mystery of the Iron Mask in different areas of the globe. Are you confused yet? Viy was based on the Nikolai Gogol story of the same name, which was previously adapted in 1960’s Black Sunday and 1964’s Viy.
Journey to China is the latest film from director Oleg Stepchenko. The picture was written by Dmitri Palees, Alexey Petrukhin, and Oleg Stepchenko. The film stars Jason Flemyng, Charles Dance, Alexey Petrukhin, Anna Churina, Rutger Hauer, Martin Klebba, and Christopher Fairbank. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jackie Chan also appear.
