Trailer: ‘American Assassin’ Puts Two More In Your Head

Lionsgate and CBS Films have release two new trailers for their upcoming adaptation of Vince Flynn’s American Assassin. Detailing the recruitment and training of Flynn’s popular character, Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien), the film sees its hero enlisted by the CIA to help stop two dangerous adversaries (Shiva Negar and Taylor Kitsch) from firing up a new World War in the Middle East. Check out both the new red band and green band trailers below…

Having not read the novels, I cannot comment on how well this does or doesn’t seem to be bringing the source material to life. As a fan of espionage/black ops films, however, this very much looks like someone tossed the works of Robert Ludlum and Tom Clancy into a blender, the sat a small Ian Fleming cherry atop the milkshake that came of it. Some might see it as derivative, but I’m intrigued. There’s still a good chance that this will offer up nothing more than a serviceable stab at such cinema, but American Assassin has my interest for the time being.

American Assassin is based on the novel of the same name by Vince Flynn. It is directed by Michael Cuesta, from a screenplay by Stephen Scott, Michael Finch, Edward Zwick, and Marshall Herskovitz. The picture is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Nick Wechsler. The film stars Dylan O’Brien as ‘Mitch Rapp’, Michael Keaton as ‘Stan Hurley’, Sanaa Lathan as ‘Deputy Director Irene Kennedy’, Shiva Negar as ‘Annika’, Taylor Kitsch as ‘Ghost’, David Suchet as ‘Stansfield’, Scott Adkins as ‘Victor’, Sydney White as ‘Emily’, Trevor White as ‘Dr. Frain’, Alaa Safi as ‘Javeed’, and Navid Negahban as ‘Behurz’.

American Assassin arrives in theaters on September 15th, 2017.
