Trailer: ‘Annabelle: Creation’ Conjures Up More Terror

Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema have issued a new trailer for Annabelle: Creation. The latest film in The Conjuring cinematic universe, this entry is set before all previous others, detailing the secret beginnings of the titular terror doll. Franchise overlord James Wan once again produces, with Lights Out director David F. Sandberg captaining the ship this time around.

The story is focused on a dollmaker and his wife, whose daughter died twenty years earlier, as they decide to open their home to a nun and several girls from an orphanage that has been closed. The dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle, sets her sights on the girls, turning their shuddered shelter into a storm of terror.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first Annabelle. Despite having a killer premise and a couple standout moments, it was a largely forgettable affair. Last year’s Lights Out was a good horrific times at the movies, however, and it looks like Sandberg has really upped the ante here. Evil dolls, possession, telekinesis, demons, and the hint of a living scarecrow? You have our attention, Mr. Sandberg.

Annabelle: Creation is the fourth film in The Conjuring cinematic universe. It is directed by David F. Sandberg, from a screenplay by Gary Dauberman. The picture is produced by James Wan and Peter Safran. The film stars Stephanie Sigman, Miranda Otto, Anthony LaPaglia, Talitha Bateman, Samara Lee, Philippa Coulthard, Lulu Wilson, Grace Fulton, Lou Lou Safran, Tayler Buck, Mark Bramhall, Adam Bartley, Alicia Vela-Bailey, Lotta Losten, and Joseph Bishara.

Annabelle: Creation arrives in theaters on August 11th, 2017.
