Jurassic World 2 no more! Universal has released the official title for the upcoming sequel to the 2015 and it is Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Major kudos to them for not including the word “rise” in there in some fashion. Granted “fallen” isn’t too far off, but at least it hasn’t been used as much in recent years, outside of Gerard Butler stabfests.
The studio has also tossed out the first teaser poster for the film, which you will find at the end of this article. It’s a pretty typical Jurassic Park teaser poster; simply showing off the logo and attempting to lay out the coming film’s darker tone. Given embers floating across it, I’m guessing the “fallen kingdom” is that of mankind and that our world is bathing in fire and dinosaur violence? Then again, perhaps not, but one can dream. Much like I root for the apes in the Planet of the Apes films, the dinosaurs have my allegiance in the Jurassic Park movies. Sorry, humanity!
Fallen Kingdom is supposed to be the middle chapter in an entire Jurassic World trilogy. A number of talent from the first film have returned for this one, as well as a few mainstays from the original Park series. Behind the camera this time is director J.A. Bayona, whose past works include The Orphanage, The Impossible, and A Monster Calls. The man has a good handle on suspense and horror, as well as CGI and beautiful cinematography, so at the very least we should be in for some striking imagery.
Previous director Colin Trevorrow has remained on board as a screenwriter, alongside his frequent collaborator Derek Connolly. Trevorrow understandably opted not to return to the directors chair when the chance to helm Star Wars: Episode IX instead reared its head. His latest directorial effort, The Book of Henry, is playing in limited release right now, as he prepares to shoot his Star Wars outing later this year.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the fifth film in the Jurassic Park franchise, which are based on the novels by Michael Crichton. It is directed by J.A. Bayona, from a screenplay by Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly. The picture is produced by Frank Marshall, Belen Atienza, Patrick Crowley, and Steven Spielberg. The film stars Chris Pratt as ‘Owen Grady’, Bryce Dallas Howard as ‘Claire Dearing’, Jeff Goldblum as ‘Dr. Ian Malcolm’, B.D. Wong as ‘Dr. Henry Wu’, James Cromwell as ‘Benjamin Lockwood’, Toby Jones as ‘Wheaton’, Rafe Spall as ‘Mills’, and Robert Emms as ‘Jack’. Ted Levine, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, and Geraldine Chaplin also appear.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom arrives in theaters on June 22nd, 2018.
