Earlier this week, STX Entertainment release the first trailer for The Foreigner. Directed by Martin Campbell (The Mask of Zorro, Casino Royale), the action-thriller stars Jackie Chan as a restaurant owner who sets out for revenge after his daughter is killed in a terrorist bombing. Once he zeroes in on a government official (Pierce Brosnan) with potential past ties to the group responsible, the man will stop at nothing to get information on his daughter’s killers.
Brosnan re-teaming with his GoldenEye director for a new film is a wonderful prospect on its own. The film having Jackie Chan as the other lead only sweetens the deal. The tone and subject matter here are decidedly more serious than Chan’s usual English-language work, but are fairly in line with the types of films he’s been making in Asia off and on for the past 20 years. I’m always up for this type of film, so here’s hoping that this triumvirate has delivered a winner.
