Netflix and Marvel TV have released a new still from “The Punisher“, their latest collaboration. This latest shot might be the best we have been given to date where Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) is seen in full regalia as the titular vigilante. The series, which has not yet been given an official arrival date, is still expected to arrive on the popular streaming service later this year.
Details in regards to its plot are unknown at this time, beyond the fact that it seems to involve a bunch of Frank’s old military buddies and a shady company named Anvil. If I had to guess, it will carry on from the arc showcased in the latter half of “Daredevil: Season 2“. Once freed from prison, Castle sought out the man most responsible for the death of his family: his former commanding officer, Colonel Schoonover (Clancy Brown).
Schoonover returned home from overseas and set himself up as a drug runner, using many of his former underlings as couriers and muscle. I wouldn’t be too surprised if Anvil turns out to be a private organization either running drugs, guns, or both and one that is staffed with former soldiers. Needless to say, Frank won’t take kindly to such an operation. One of said old buds is Billy Russo (Ben Barnes), who in the comics eventually becomes the villain Jigsaw after having a near-fatal encounter with Frank. If you look closely, you can see Barnes pre-and-post mutilation in the latest promo below, which has finally arrived in high-definition…
“The Punisher” is the sixth Marvel television series from Netflix. It was created by Steve Lightfoot and is based on the popular Marvel Comics character. “The Punisher” premieres on Netflix in late 2017.
