Jeff Bridges (Hell or High Water) and Chris Hemsworth (Marvel’s Thor) are to headline Bad Times at the El Royale. Should the latter’s deal close, it will see him re-teaming with his Cabin in the Woods filmmaker Drew Goddard. While Goddard has kept busy as a writer and producer (both of which he will do again here) since making Cabin, this will mark second feature as a director.
As for the plot?
The story is set in the 1960s at a run-down hotel near California’s Lake Tahoe named the El Royale and centers on a cast of characters whose own shady agendas will violently collide.
Vague, but details remain scarce at the moment. As it stands, it sounds like a crime thriller, but that premise could honestly take almost any turn, especially given Goddard’s writing background. The project, which is set up at Fox, is currently eyeing a January start of production. As a result, don’t be surprised if a lot more casting rolls out for the project in the coming weeks. Hopefully a few more plot details will trickle out as well.
In the meantime, Bridges can next be seen in September’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle and October’s Only the Brave. Hemsworth’s next efforts to roll out include Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and Horse Soldiers. Goddard’s latest work as a writer can be found on Netflix’s recently-premiered “The Defenders“, as well as in Deadpool 2 next summer.
