As Hellboy moves beyond its recent controversy, the cast continues to grow. Today, reported that “The Vampire Diaries” and “Hemlock Grove” actress Penelope Mitchell has been added to the roster. Mitchell will be taking on the role of Ganeida, an elder witch who objects to the actions of the films villainess, Nimue (Milla Jovovich).
It sounds like Hellboy (David Harbour) will be aided by Ganeida in some fashion during his quest to stop the Blood Queen. Mitchell is the latest “Hemlock Grove” cast member to score a role in a horror-centric fan favorite property. Starting next week, her series co-star Bill Skarsgard (pictured below) can be seen on the big screen as Pennywise, the titular menace in Andres Muschietti’s It.
In addition to Mitchell’s casting, the project has also brough on Aron Coleite (“Star Trek: Discovery“) for a final rewrite. Filming is expected to commence in Europe later this fall.
Hellboy is based upon the comics by Mike Mignola. It is directed by Neil Marshall, from a screenplay by Aron Coleite, Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden, and Mike Mignola. The picture is produced by Larry Gordon, Lloyd Levin, Mike Mignola, and Mike Richardson. The film stars David Harbour as “Anung Un Rama/Hellboy’, Ian McShane as ‘Trevor Bruttenholm/Professor Broom’, Sasha Lane as ‘Alice Monaghan’, Milla Jovovich as ‘Nimue the Blood Queen’, and Penelope Mitchell as ‘Ganeida’.
Hellboy is currently expected to arrive in theaters sometime in 2018.
