Before ‘Cuckoo’s Nest’, There Was ‘Ratched’

Netflix has won a bidding war for the rights to a One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest prequel TV series. The popular streaming service apparently both Hulu and Apple for ownership of what will be at least a two season show. So what’s it about? Nurse Ratched.

Ratched” will examine the iconic character from her nice days as a young nurse, up through her more monstrous turn before the events of the 1975 film that earned Oscars for director Milos Forman, producer Michael Douglas, and actors Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher, among others. Taking on Fletcher’s role as Nurse Ratched is Sarah Paulson (pictured below).

Aside from the fact that Paulson is immensely talented, her casting should come as no surprise. After all, the series is created by Ryan Murphy, who has already showcased her talents in various seasons of “American Horror Story“, “Feud“, and “American Crime Story” on FX.

Murphy will produce “Ratched“, alongside Michael Douglas, Margaret Riley, Jacob Epstein, and Aleen Keshishian, with Fox 21 also on board. The show is being penned by Evan Romansky. Netflix has ordered 18 episodes, which will be spread across both seasons.

Paulson can currently be seen on the latest season of “American Horror Story“, as well as upcoming films such as Steven Spielberg’s The Post and Gary Ross’ Ocean’s Eight.
