‘Goodnight Mommy’ + Hammer = ‘The Lodge’

FilmNation Entertainment and Hammer Films are joining forces on The Lodge. A Christmas-themed horror offering, the film will unfold the tale of a young woman and her stepchildren who are terrorized over the holiday by an otherworldly menace in a remote cabin. The project will be directed by Goodnight Mommy pair Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, from a screenplay co-penned by the duo and writer Sergio Casci.

Franz and Fiala on this impending collaboration…

“We couldn’t be happier to be working with Hammer and FilmNation on our first English language film. As genre filmmakers, we are incredibly excited to add our movie to the Hammer canon, and FilmNation has demonstrated time and again bold decisions in choosing which films and filmmakers to back.  With both of these companies behind us, we feel the support to make the movie as we see it in our heads, and we are excited to be moving forward.”

This will mark Hammer’s first new feature since 2014’s The Woman in Black: Angel of Death. The famed British studio was a pillar of the horror genre from the 1950s through the 1970s and was finally revived in the late 2000s. Since then, it has produced a number of different features, such as The Woman in Black, The Quiet Ones, and future Batman director Matt Reeves’ Let Me In. I haven’t loved everything they have made since their return, but I continue to root for them. Hopefully The Lodge can prove to be another winner and a hit for Hammer, allowing them to have a steadier future.
