[Trailer] Chris Hemsworth Stands ’12 Strong’

Warner Bros. has issued the first trailer for 12 Strong, their upcoming Afghanistan war drama. Hitting early next year, the film boasts an impressive cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, Trevante Rhodes, and Michael Pena. Uber-producer Jerry Bruckheimer is also behind the project, giving it that extra bit of talent heft.

Following the September 11 attacks, CIA paramilitary officers and US Special Forces team are sent to Afghanistan, where they join forces with General Abdul Rashid Dostum to fight against Taliban.

This looks very much of a piece with the likes of 13 Hours, American Sniper, and Only the Brave. Simply put, it’s men in impossible situations forced to buckle down and complete the task at hand. The cast is strong (pardon the pun) and the tale is intriguing. Hopefully the film itself will be engaging and interesting. I really like Hemsworth as a leading man, but he hasn’t had the best of luck at the box office outside of his Marvel turns. It’d be nice to see him have a non-Marvel winner on that front.

12 Strong is a war drama. The film based upon the book Horse Soldiers by Doug Stanton. It is directed by Nicolaj Fuglsig, from a screenplay by Peter Craig and Ted Tally. The film is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Thad Luckinbill, Trent Luckinbill, and Molly Smith. It stars Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, Austin Stowell, Michael Pena, Trevante Rhodes, Elsa Pataky, Rob Riggle, Austin Hebert, Ben O’Toole, Navid Negahban, Fahim Fazil, Peter Malek, Alison King, and Lauren Myers.

12 Strong arrives in theaters on January 19th, 2018.
