I love Jean-Claude Van Damme movies. Always have. Always will. That’s not to say that everything the man has made for the silver screen (or its DTV sibling) is a gem. He’s certainly has his share of stinkers, although he always manages to make them interesting in some way.
The action superstar has had a resurgence of late, from quality indie actioners like Universal Soldier: Regeneration to blasting back into theaters with The Expendables 2. Now he has his eye on the small screen and Amazon Studios are more than happy to help him accomplish that goal. I, for one, couldn’t be happier.
Last year, as part of one of their pilot seasons, Amazon debut an insanely entertaining and incredibly hysterical action comedy pilot titled “Jean-Claude Van Johnson“. The concept was a satirical take on JVCD’s life, positing that he has secretly been a super-spy all of these years and is itching to get back in the espionage game. It was thankfully picked up for a full season and come December 15th, that season will debut on Amazon Prime.
Any Jean-Claude Van Damme fan (be it past, present, or future) needs to seek out that pilot and revel in its genius. You owe yourself that much. Hopefully, like me, you will love it enough to give the full season a shot during the holiday season. After all, if the whole series is as good as that initial episode, there’s no way fans aren’t going to want a second batch in 2018! Now watch the trailer…
