Rob Zombie Is Making A Sequel To ‘The Devil’s Rejects’

According to our sister site, , rocker-turned-filmmaker Rob Zombie is quietly prepping a third film in the series that began with House of 1000 Corpses and continued in The Devil’s Rejects. Thus far, no official confirmation or denial has come from either Rob Zombie or Lionsgate. The project also currently has no title or logline to speculate on.

So what do we make of this? It’s certainly not out of the realm of possibility. Zombie has talked up the potential for a third film off and on over the years. I even recall him chatting up a possible “Rejects from Hell” angle where the popular trio from the Firefly family (Otis, Baby, Spaulding) literally escape Hell and return to Earth to wreck havoc once more.

Such a take would likely lend itself more to the style of Corpses, but there’s nothing wrong with that. Barring a prequel set before their demises at the end of Rejects, it’s really the only way to go. Plus their monstrous afterlife existence was already confirmed by Zombie’s 2009 animated film, The Haunted World of El Superbeasto.

I honestly hope Zombie himself weighs in on this and for a number of reasons. Not only would it be nice to receive confirmation, but an update on his other projects would be welcome as well. His sports film, Broad Street Bullies, seems to be backburnered for reasons beyond his control. It currently sits alongside other unmade projects like Tyrannosaurus Rex, What Ever Happened to Baron Von Shock?, and a feature-length expansion of Werewolf Women of the S.S..

Still, Raised Eyebrows, his Groucho Marx biopic, seemed primed to be his next film. Financing was reportedly being put together earlier this year and rumor has it that John Turturro is/was circling the lead. Is that dead now as well? Also, what of the potential 31 sequel that Saban Films reportedly wants?

On top of all of this, one of the more interesting aspects of this news is that Lionsgate even wants a third film. After all, Zombie has pitched one to them on more than one occasion in the past and has been turned away each time due to lack of interest. I’d love for Lionsgate to fully get back into the horror game, but them doing so will have everything to do with how well Jigsaw does this weekend.
As a result, I refuse to get excited about the prospect of another Firefly clan film until an actual announcement comes down the pipe. I’d certainly welcome one, especially if it ends up being as different from Rejects as that film is from Corpses. I have zero problems with the notion of Bill Moseley, Sid Haig, and Sheri Moon Zombie returning to those roles for one last go, so long as the story takes an interesting turn.
