‘Warcraft’ Lands A Graphic Novel Prequel

Duncan Jones’ Warcraft, an adaptation of the hit fantasy video game series of the same name, completed production earlier this year and is now on its long march through post-production as Jones’ oversees the special effects work ahead of its June 2016 release.  We may have almost a year to go before we get the film, but production company Legendary isn’t resting on their laurels.  A graphic novel prequel to the film has been announced and is expected to hit shelves a month ahead of the film’s release next year.

Titled “Warcraft: Bonds of Brotherhood“, will be based on a story by Blizzard Entertainment’s Chris Metzen.  The graphic novel will be penned by Paul Cornell (“Wolverine”, “Doctor Who”) and illustrated by Matt Broome (“Batman: No Man’s Land”).  There are no details at this time about what this adventure will entail or how many of the game’s classic characters will be included.  We do, however, have an early look at the comic…

Universal’s Warcraft is slated for theatrical release on June 10, 2016.  The project is directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code), from a script by Charles Leavitt and Duncan Jones.  It stars Dominic Cooper, Paula Patton, Toby Kebbell, Ben Foster, Rob Kazinsky, Clancy Brown, Travis Fimmel, Dylan Schombing, Ben Schnetzer, Ruth Negga, Daniel Wu, Terry Notary, Daniel Redman, Burkely Duffman, Daniel Cudmore, and Callum Keith Rennie.

The film, a Legendary Pictures, Blizzard Entertainment and Atlas Entertainment production, is produced by Charles Roven, Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Alex Gartner. Stuart Fenegan, Jillian Share, Brent O’Connor, and Blizzard Entertainment’s Michael Morhaime and Paul Sams serve as executive producers. Rob Pardo and Blizzard Entertainment’s Chris Metzen and Nick Carpenter co‐produce with Atlas’s Rebecca Steel Roven.
