Variety has scored the season finale dates for The CW‘s currently-running shows. You can view the full list by clicking on the link provided, but for our purposes, I will be sticking to the comic-based shows that air on the network. The CW currently airs four comic book series, all of which are based on DC Comics properties. So when will they all wrap up this season? See for yourself…
April 12th – “iZombie“
May 19th – “Legends of Tomorrow“
May 24th – “The Flash“
May 25th – “Arrow“
“iZombie” will be finishing out its second season in mid-April. It has not yet been renewed for a third season, although fans remain hopeful that one is on the horizon, myself included. Speaking more realistically, given the nature of The CW and the 50/50 split it must maintain between the WB-produced and CBS-produced shows that it airs, I’m not so sure it will get a third time at bat. While its ratings have been higher than a number of other shows on the network, it’s sadly first on the chopping block when it comes to the WB-produced programming. Given that WB has three pilots in the works for the network, it seems unlikely that “iZombie” will be sticking around should any of those be taken to series.
On a more positive note, it seems highly unlikely that any of the other three will be cancelled. “The Flash” is, hands down, their highest-rated series and is also a critical darling. A third season for the Scarlet Speedster is as sure a thing as you can come by, outside of an actual official confirmation.
“Arrow” will hit syndication numbers this year, so anything going forward is just icing on the cake. It’s ratings continue to remain very strong, making a 5th season renewal likely. Once you add in the fact that most of its stars are contracted for at least a few more seasons (Stephen Amell is signed up through a 7th season), a renewal for it is also a sure thing.
“Legends of Tomorrow” might be the freshman of the group, but it’s certainly no runt of the litter when it comes to ratings. The newbie series has consistently performed even higher in terms of ratings than “Arrow” and is second only to “The Flash” overall. The show is a bit more expensive than its brethren, but also carries a shorter episode order, which has likely saved it quite a bit of dough this season. I’ll honestly be shocked if it isn’t called up to get a sophomore run for next year.
