The CW Has Given ‘Riverdale’ An Early Renewal

According to Entertainment Weekly, The CW has already given their new hit series, “Riverdale“, a renewal for a second season. The new series, which hails from the hands of CW golden gods Greg Berlanti & Co., has been a hit for the network since its debut, averaging 0.8 million adults a week and strong ratings on the streaming and Live+7 fronts.

The dark, “Twin Peaks“-ish take on the classic Archie Comics characters has clearly struck a chord with viewers, so it comes at little surprise that the network wants to continue the series. Given that the source material is vast, I also won’t be too surprised if a few spin-offs begin development in the near future. A Chilling Adventures of Sabrina series would make for a fun addition to The CW for instance, both as a spin-off and a thematic companion piece to shows like “Supernatural” and “iZombie“.

Speaking of “Supernatural”, this marks the latest in a long line of renewals from The CW this television season. The network has also already renewed the likes of “The Flash“, “Arrow“, “Supergirl“, “Legends of Tomorrow“, “Supernatural“, “Jane the Virgin“, and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” for the 2017-2018 season. With “The Vampire Diaries” and “Reign” ending this season, the only CW shows whose futures are left undecided at this time are “The 100“, “iZombie“, “The Originals“. “Frequency“, and “No Tomorrow“. Decisions on those series will likely come sometime in May.
