It’s time to tango with the release dates once more! There have been a lot of shuffles in recent days, including the Avatar sequels, and we’re here to lay them out for you. First on deck? This year’s offerings…
Fox’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle has been moved up a week to a September 22nd, 2017 release. The Matthew Vaughn-directed super-spy sequel stars Taron Egerton, Channing Tatum, Halle Berry, Jeff Bridges, Colin Firth, and Julianne Moore. A trailer is slated to arrive soon, possibly in the coming week.
As a result of Kingman‘s move, Universal has shifted the release date of their Tom Cruise crime drama, American Made. The Doug Liman-directed feature will now arrive in theaters on September 29th, 2017. The film was actually shot before The Mummy, which opens this June, but has seen a number of release date shifts as it avoids larger competition.
Kenneth Branagh’s new version of Murder on the Orient Express has been bumped up. Originally debuting Thanksgiving week this year, it will now open a few weeks earlier on November 10th, 2017. This latest adaptation of the classic Agatha Christie novel stars Kenneth Branagh, Daisy Ridley, Penelope Cruz, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Judi Dench, Willem Dafoe, Josh Gad, and many more.
Steven Spielberg‘s untitled Pentagon Papers picture, formerly known as The Post, is now set to arrives in cinemas on December 22nd, 2017 in a limited release. After its awards-qualifying 2017 run, it will open nationwide January 12th, 2018. The film, which will lens soon, is set to star Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep.
As we move further into 2018…
The final installment of Fox’s young adult trilogy, The Maze Runner, has been dated. Maze Runner: The Death Cure will arrive in theaters on February 9th, 2018. The dystopian action thriller is once again directed by Wes Ball and stars Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scolelario, Barry Pepper, Giancarlo Esposito, Aidan Gillen, and Patritica Clarkson.
Red Sparrow, the spy thriller directed by Francis Lawrence and starring Jennifer Lawrence, Joel Edgerton, Jeremy Irons, and more has been pushed back. Originally slated to arrive on November 10th, 2017, the feature will now open on March 2nd, 2018.
Fox has pushed back The Predator. Director Shane Black and writer Fred Dekker’s revival of the Predator franchise has bounced from its original February 9th, 2018 date. It will now uncloak in cinemas on August 3rd, 2018. While this might be a bit of a bummer to fans, myself included, this is a good sign. Given that the film is currently in production, this move to a bigger summer date is a vote of confidence from the studio, who clearly like what they are seeing from dailies.
Lastly, we have two more dates for 2018, both of which are for Fox featuers. Widows, the latest film from Shame and 12 Years A Slave director Steve McQueen, will hit screens on November 16th, 2018. The heist thriller stars Viola Davis, Colin Farrell, Michelle Rodriguez, and more. A month later, Bryan Singer’s Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, is set to arrive in theaters on December 25th, 2018.
