Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Rampage’ Stomps Out A Plot

The world of video game adaptations is currently getting giant-sized as action superstar Dwayne Johnson is off filming Rampage. Based on the giant monster game, the Brad Peyton-directed picture hits screens next year and carries a fun cast. What of the actual plot though? What genius narrative construct is bringing together giant gorilla, wolf, and alligator creatures as they go toe to toe with the People’s Champion?

has the answer…

The first privately owned space station is destroyed by a mysterious experiment done onboard. Three canisters from the crash land on Earth. One lands in the gorilla enclosure at the San Diego Zoo, the other in the plains of Wyoming and the last one in the Florida Everglades. The Griffin Technologies Group, headed by two siblings (Malin Akerman and Jake Lacy), tries to destroy any evidence of wrongdoing before the government finds out. It’s too late because the canisters have infected a gorilla named George, a wolf in Wyoming and an alligator. They start evolving and growing exponentially. To cover their track, the Griffin idiots decided to unleash a beacon that will make all three large animals head toward one destination: their head office located in the Willis Tower in Chicago.

Kaiju-tinged industrial espionage? I dig it! The plot sounds ludicrous, of course. Ludicrous is exactly what this property needs, so this is a good thing. After all, we’re talking about a movie based on a fun video game where giant monsters smash, stomp, and/or eat everything in sight. That alone is pulpy as can before before you toss Dwayne Johnson into the mix.

Where does the rest of the cast fit in? According to the outlet, Johnson is playing an ex-Marine who is now a primatologist, one who has a strong bond with George. An odd career turn for an ex-Marine, but if you’re going to have the military pay for your schooling after your service, you might as well follow your passions. Naomie Harris (Skyfall) is an ex-Griffin Technologies scientist bent on stopping it all. Joe Manganiello (“True Blood“) is a mercenary and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (“The Walking Dead“) plays a government agent.

Rampage stomps into theaters on April 20th, 2018.
