7. Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy (1955)
I am not an authority on Bud Abbott and Lou Costello’s films, be it their monster encounters or otherwise. I do know that this film is nowhere near as good as the horror-comedy perfection that is 1948’s Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. That said, few films are that good, so I won’t hold that (ghost) against it. This is a fun little slapstick movie, both for fans of classic comedy and classic monsters. It also happens to offer up Universal’s third cinematic mummy, appearing for the first and last time: Klaris. Yes, that’s Kharis with one letter changed and lord only knows why. It really doesn’t matter though, as this is a cute piece of creature calamity and, along with Meet Frankenstein, a great way to introduce kids to the Universal Monsters.
