Paramount Pictures has released its first trailer for Daddy’s Home 2. Keeping the first film’s team and cast relatively intact, this sequel picks up sometime after the first one, with the bromance Brad (Will Ferrell) and Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) in full swing. They enjoy each other’s company so much that they’ve decided to have a combined family Christmas, with both of their fathers joining in. While Brad’s father (John Lithgow) is a fine fit for this modern family dynamic, Dusty’s papa (Mel Gibson) is a different story altogether…
Not a particularly standout trailer, but it works well enough. The goal is to clearly sell audiences on the added combo of Gibson and Lithgow to the Wahlberg/Ferrell dynamic and this preview does just that. The humor is kept relatively light, with the more slapstick moments likely being saved for later trailers. The same holds true for John Cena’s return, after his cameo at the end of the first film. Will all of these additions be enough to entice audiences to go for a second helping of Daddy’s Home? Your guess is as good as mine. Comedy sequels have a bad habit of turning out poorly, after all.
