A cabal of producers, including Mark Johnson and Joe Roth, have formed their own new production company, The H Collective. Such a move happens fairly regularly in Hollywood, but what makes this particular one interesting is that according to The Wrap, its first project will be xXx 4. The company will finance, produce, market, and distribute the next sequel in the Vin Diesel franchise, along with numerous projects over the next few years.
After lying dormant for twelve years, the “extreme” secret agent franchise roared back to life earlier this year with xXx: Return of Xander Cage. Despite being a rollicking good time, it failed to set the box office on fire here in the United States of America, where it pulled in a paltry $44.9 million. Lucky for fans, the $85 million budgeted film raked in $301.2 million internationally, with a total of over $346 million worldwide. If you want to know why another film is now in the works, there’s your answer.
Nothing is known at this time in regards to plot or talent, beyond the obvious return of Diesel, or if Paramount will be involved in any capacity again. I personally hope that they keep his team from the latest one as intact as possible, from director D.J. Caruso to screenwriter F. Scott Frazier to co-stars like Sam Jackson, Ruby Rose, Donnie Yen, Nina Dobrev, Tony Jaa, and Deepika Padukone. After all, if it isn’t broken, why fix it? With the film now officially on the way and Diesel’s schedule relatively open until early next year, I suspect we’ll be hearing more about this sequel soon.
