[Trailer] Michael Fassbender Hunts ‘The Snowman’

Universal has issued its first trailer for The Snowman, an upcoming serial killer thriller starring Michael Fassbender. Based on author Jo Nesbo‘s novel series centered around Detective Harry Hole, the film is directed by Tomas Alfredson. If that weren’t pedigree enough for you, this murder mystery has a supporting cast filled out by the likes of Rebecca Ferguson, J.K. Simmons, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Val Kilmer, Toby Jones, and more.

Detective Harry Hole (Michael Fassbender) investigates the disappearance of a woman whose pink scarf is found wrapped around an ominous-looking snowman.

Tomas Alfredson’s last two films, the vampire tale Let the Right One In and the spy thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, are both utterly fantastic. This film looks no different. Serial killer movies were Hollywood’s bread and butter in the 1990s, but have mostly tapered off since. It looks to be both riveting and disturbing, especially given that the masked killer’s modus operandi is very giallo-esque. The noose-o-matic weapon witnessed in the trailer is something literally straight out of a Dario Argento film (Trauma, to be exact). The Snowman is shaping up to be a must-see feature this fall.

The Snowman is an adaptation of the crime novel by Jo Nesbo. It is directed by Tomas Alfredson, from a screenplay by Hossein Amini and Matthew Michael Carnahan. The picture is produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Robyn Solvo, and Peter Gustafsson. The film stars Michael Fassbender as ‘Detective Harry Hole’, Rebecca Ferguson as ‘Katrine Bratt’, Charlotte Gainsbourg as ‘Rakel’, J.K. Simmons as ‘Arve Stop’, Toby Jones as ‘Gert Rafto’, Jamie Clayton as ‘Edda’, and Jakob Oftebro as ‘Superintendent Skarre’. Val Kilmer, Chloe Sevigny, Sofia Helin, James D’Arcy, and Anne Reid also appear.

The Snowman arrives in theaters on October 20th, 2017.
