[Trailer] Syfy’s ‘Krypton’ Unveils Its First Promo

As someone who still very much likes Man of Steel, even I was supremely skeptical of a potential prequel TV series set 200 years before its events. On the one hand, the Krypton-set opening prologue of Zack Snyder’s film is one of the best things about it. On the other hand, David Goyer is on board to develop and produce this series. At the end of the day, “Krypton” will live or die on its day-to-day talent and the budget that Syfy affords it. So now that we have some actual footage to take in, courtesy of SDCC 2017, how does it look?

It’s a short teaser, but so far, so good. This series is to tell the story of the House of El (Superman’s lineage) and will primarily focus on Superman’s grandfather, Seg-El. From the looks of things (and based on Goyer’s comments), this may actually be the first DC TV series to be set within the same continuity as the DC Extended Universe films. In other words, it looks to be an outright prequel to Man of Steel. That’s an intriguing notion, as is the fact that Colm McCarthy (The Girl with All the Gits, “Peaky Blinders“) directed the pilot. It also helps that Syfy’s more recent original series have been turning out well, with the likes of “The Expanse“, “Killjoys“, “The Magicians“, “Dark Matter“, and “12 Monkeys” all garnering acclaim. Hopefully this will follow suit.

Krypton” is a DC Comics series based upon the planet of the same name. It was developed by David S. Goyer, Ian Goldberg, and Damian Kindler, with the latter serving as showrunner. The series stars Cameron Cuffe as ‘Seg-El’, Georgina Campbell as ‘Lyta Zod’, Ian McElhinney as ‘Val-El’, Elliot Cowan as ‘Daron-Vex’, Ann Ogbomo as ‘Alura Zod’, Rasmus Hardiker as ‘Kem’, Wallis Day as ‘Nyssa-Vex’, and Aaron Pierre as ‘Dev-Em’.

Krypton” will premiere on Syfy in 2018.
