WB Updates Its DC Film Slate

Today at San Diego Comic-Con 2017, Warner Bros. gave an update in regards to their upcoming DC Extended Universe slate. In addition to showing off a new trailer for Justice League and some Aquaman footage, they also announced a few new projects, altered the nature of at least one, and reassured their audience that all previous projects are still on the way.

Whether or not most of these eventually get made is anyone’s guess, especially given the sheer amount of them. Regardless, I have listed the whole lot below. From new solo outings to spin-offs to sequels, there’s a ton of DC cinema currently in the works under the watchful eyes of the Brothers Warner.

Upcoming projects with release dates…

November 17th, 2017 – JUSTICE LEAGUE (dir. Zack Snyder)
December 21st, 2018 – AQUAMAN (dir. James Wan)
April 5th, 2019 – SHAZAM (dir. David F. Sandberg)

Projects in-development…

  • THE BATMAN (dir. Matt Reeves)
  • GOTHAM CITY SIRENS (dir. David Ayer)
  • BATGIRL (dir. Joss Whedon)
  • NIGHTWING (dir. Chris McKenna
  • SUICIDE SQUAD 2 (dir. Jaume Collet-Serra – tentatively)
  • WONDER WOMAN 2 (dir. Patty Jenkins – tentatively)
  • FLASHPOINT
  • GREEN LANTERN CORPS.
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK
  • CYBORG
  • MAN OF STEEL 2
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE 2
  • BLACK ADAM
  • DEADSHOT
  • BOOSTER GOLD
  • TEAM 7
  • METAL MEN
  • LOBO
  • UNTITLED JOKER & HARLEY QUINN PROJECT

The latest additions to the above list are Wonder Woman 2 and the Joker & Harley film (Mad Love?). The oft-delayed Flash film has now become a Flashpoint movie. Lord knows why they think that’s a good idea, given that the popular live action TV series just covered that arc on its most recent season. Hell, I question the need for a Harley and Joker film. After all, he seems likely to pop up in Gotham City Sirens. Why not dish out that spurned love story there or in a sequel? Why the need for a separate spin-off? Then again, not much Warner Bros. does when it comes to the DC Extended Universe makes sense these days, aside from finally announcing Wonder Woman 2.

The current rumor is that Flashpoint is coming as a way to handwave off an recasting on down the line, with Ben Affleck being the chief candidate for that. From that standpoint, it makes sense, both as a way to excuse a new actor in the Batman cowl going forward and because it would still allow Affleck to fulfill is reported 5-film contract. Still, I have my doubts that they will be able to adapt that popular arc from the source material as well as “The Flash” series. Mind you the show hasn’t been perfect, especially for the last two seasons, but to date its record is more trustworthy than that of their film division.

Good luck on getting all of these films made, Brothers Warner. You’re going to need it.
