Netflix has released the first teaser for its latest action film, Wheelman. An action thriller produced by Joe Carnahan (Smokin Aces, The Grey), the film stars Frank Grillo (The Purge, Captain America) as a betrayed getaway driver who must save his family while also determining who sold him out. The film arrives on the popular streaming service in October and also stars Garret Dillahunt (“Deadwood“, “Justified“).
A getaway driver for a bank robbery realizes he has been double crossed and races to find out who betrayed him.
That’s kind of a nothing of a teaser, but I guess it gets the point across. Anyway, I’m more excited by the talent behind this than I am the premise or the teaser itself. Netflix has tossed out quite a few original genre films in recent months that have turned out to be winners, from Adam Wingard’s Death Note to Tommy Wirkola’s What Happened To Monday. They have a bunch more due out later this year, including this, David Ayer’s Bright, Mike Flanagan‘s Gerald’s Game, and the animated Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters. I think it’s safe to say that they have stepped up their game in the filmmaking department as much as they have in the TV one.
Wheelman is an original action thriller. It is written and directed by Jeremy Rush. The film was produced by Craig Chapman, Frank Grillo, J. Todd Harris, Chady Eli Matar, Myles Nestel, and Joe Carnahan. It stars Frank Grillo as ‘The Wheelman’, Garret Dillahunt as ‘Clayton’, and Caitlin Carmichael as ‘Katie’.
Wheelman premieres on Netflix on October 20th, 2017.
