‘John Wick: Chapter 3’ Targets Summer 2019

Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment have officially set a May 17th, 2019 release date for John Wick: Chapter 3. The third (and potentially final) installment in the franchise is currently set to begin production early next year. Keanu Reeves will return to produce and star in the film, with franchise mainstay Derek Kolstad once again writing the script.  The project is also expected to retain director/producer Chad Stahelski.

In a show of confidence, this release date plants the film firmly between Disney’s releases of Avengers 4 and Aladdin, as well as counter-programming offerings like Minecraft and Uglydolls. Chapter 3 is expected to pick up some time after the ending of this year’s Chapter 2, with our antihero excommunicated from the secretive world of assassins and one the run. According to Stahelshi, the mysterious High Table will finally come into play.

No other cast members are currently set. That said, don’t be surprised if series regulars Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, John Leguizamo, Bridget Moynahan, Thomas Sadoski, and David Patrick Kelly return in some capacity. Here’s hoping that this year’s surviving additions pop back up as well, especially Laurence Fishburne, Franco Nero, and Peter Serafinowicz.

In the meantime, the creative team also continues to develop the TV series spin-off, “The Continental“. Theatrical spin-offs are also a possibility, with a recent project titled Ballerina potentially becoming a part of this world. John Wick’s journey could very well end in 2019, but his cinematic universe looks to continue for years to come.
