[Trailer] Get Ready For Your New ‘Tomb Raider’

Are you ready for a rollicking new Lara Croft adventure? If you are, today is a good day for you! Warner Bros. has issued the first trailer for its upcoming reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise. The film, based one the popular video game franchise of the same name, is taking a page from the game series’ own 2013 reboot. You will find the trailer below, as well as the film’s synopsis. Enjoy!

“Seven years after the disappearance of her father, 21-year-old Lara has refused to take the reins of his global business empire, instead working as a bike courier in London while taking college classes. Eventually she becomes inspired to investigate her father’s disappearance and travels to his last-known location: a tomb on an island somewhere off the coast of Japan.

Suddenly, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Lara, who – against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit – must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown. If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name tomb raider.”

Having only seen the previous films and not played much of the games, I’m coming at this project from an odd angle. I have no nostalgia for the property, so I can only view it in adventure film terms. Based on this trailer, what I’m seeing is a pretty generic-looking adventure flick that’s handsomely shot. It has a good cast and an interesting director, however, so I’m certainly willing to see what it has up its sleeve. Still, I’m not overly impressed by what is on display here.

Tomb Raider is the latest film based on the popular video game franchise of the same name. It is directed by Roar Uthaug (Cold PreyThe Wave), from a screenplay by Geneva Robertson-Dworet. The film stars Alicia Vikander as ‘Lara Croft’, Walton Goggins as ‘Father Mathias Vogel’, Daniel Wu as ‘Lu Ren’, Dominic West as ‘Lord Richard Croft’, Hannah John-Kamen as ‘Sophie’, Antonio Akeel as ‘Nitin’, Alexandre Willaume as ‘Conrad Roth’, and Leo Ashizawa as ‘Alex Ren’. Kristen Scott Thomas, Nick Frost, Adrian Collins, and Vere Tindale also appear.

Tomb Raider is will arrive in theaters on March 16th, 2018.
